At the present time, Prof. Tomasz Obłój is the Associate Professor of Strategy in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the Indiana University. From 2011 to 2022, he was the titular professor of strategy at HEC Paris (official title: Dieter Schwarz Foundation Chaired Associate Professor of Strategy) where, from 2020 to 2022, he served as Chair of the Strategy and Business Policy Department.

Tomasz Obłój completed his master’s degree at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and obtained his doctorate at INSEAD. He also studied at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Warsaw. His dissertation was recognised in the Academy of Management competition as the best dissertation in strategy (Wiley Blackwell Outstanding Dissertation Award, 2015) and made it to the INFORMS competition finals for the best dissertation proposal (INFORMS/Organisation Science Dissertation Proposal Competition). In 2017, Tomasz Obłój was recognised by Poets&Quants as one of the top 40 ‘pre-forty’ professors of management.

Prof. Obłój is a specialist in strategic management, organisation architecture, behavioural strategy, social dimension of business and social justice in companies. In the last four years, he has published eight papers in international academic journals in the fields of strategy and social science. In 2023, the Financial Times published a podcast with Professor Obłój devoted to his research programme on pay transparency in organisations. This research programme received broad coverage considering its topic of pay equity and social justice, but also due to the research apparatus that was used to evaluate gender pay equity and justice and the importance of pay transparency in offsetting discriminatory practices within organisations.

Tomasz Obłój is also active in the wider research community. From 2016 to 2022, he was elected for two terms as an editor (associate editor) of the leading academic journal in strategic management, Strategic Management Journal. Since 2024, he has also been an editor at the Organisation Science and since 2025 at the Strategy Science (senior editor). In 2021, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the largest academic association in the field of management, the Academy of Management (STR division).

Prof. Obłój is a recognised and respected educator who teaches strategic management to a wide range of students. He has repeatedly won students’ awards for the best lecturer in graduate, MBA and EMBA programmes, and has been awarded the prestigious French BNP Paribas Pierre Vernimmen Teaching Award for overall achievements in education. In his teaching work, he also prepares online lectures and case studies. His most recent case study, written together with K. Obłój: All in Flour Bakery: Making Bread or Making Money (Ivey Publishing 2022), concerning the Polish bakery ‘All in Flour’ (Cała w Mące) and the strategic dilemma on whether to focus on financial performance or the social mission, achieved, in just one year at Ivey, the status of one of the ten most popular case studies worldwide and is available on most platforms, including Harvard Business Publishing.
