REGULATIONS FOR GRANTING THE "SGH LEADERS" ALUMNI AWARD

§ 1

The hereby Regulations specify the rules and the procedure for granting the "SGH Leaders" Alumni Award, hereinafter referred to as the "Award", in 2020.

§ 2

1. The SGH Warsaw School of Economics, hereinafter referred to as "SGH", honours SGH graduates with the Award in the form of "SGH Leader" title in 2020 and a commemorative statuette for significant positive impact and achievements as a leader in the field of science or business.

2. Nominees to the Award must be graduates of the university, i.e. persons who have completed their first, second or third degree studies at SGH, obtaining a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, being  either of Polish or foreign origins.

3. Due to the fact that the Award constitutes part of the project implemented with the financial support of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the International Alumni programme, the Award will be granted in the following categories:

  1. foreign graduates - who are understood as foreigners and Polish citizens who after graduation went abroad and are not subject to the Polish tax residence.
  2. Polish graduates i.e. graduates not mentioned in the item above.

§ 3

1. The Award is granted by an Award Jury headed by Rector as the Chairman, who appoints:

  1. Vice Rector for Outreach
  2. Vice-Rector for International Relations,
  3. Vice-Rector for Research and Management,
  4. Director of the Career and Alumni Relations Centre,
  5. SGH Partners Club representative.

2. In addition, the Rector may appoint no more than 3 members from the University Council, the Stowarzyszenie Absolwentów SGH (SGH Alumni Association) or the Stowarzyszenie Absolwentów Wydziału Handlu Zagranicznego SGPiS/SGH „Korporacja HZ” (“HZ Corporation” Foreign Trade Faculty Alumni Association) to the Award Jury.

3. The tasks of the Award Jury include selecting winners in each of the fields (science or business), taking into account the division into categories (Polish or foreign graduates), i.e. 4 persons in total. Winners are selected based on the results of the assessment of the nominated candidates according to the criteria and principles set out in § 5.

4. In the event of equal number of points, the Award Jury decides who to grant the Award to. The Competition Jury may also decide that it will grant the Award to more than one person.

5. The Competition Jury reserves the right not to grant the Award in one or all fields if the candidates do not meet the requirement specified in § 2 par. 1.

6.  Members of the Award Jury are obliged to maintain in secrecy all confidential information which they have obtained in connection with the work of the Award Jury.

§ 4

1. The right to nominate candidates for the Award is granted to:

  1. Deans of SGH collegia,
  2. Deans of the Bachelor and Master Studies,
  3. Dean of the Doctoral School,
  4. Chairmans of the councils of scientific disciplines, i.e. economics and finance, political science and administration, management and quality science,
  5. Alumni associations and organisations,
  6. University Council.

2. Nominations including:

1) name and surname,

2) contact details,

3) consent to the nomination

4) declaration of citizenship and indicating tax residence - in the case of candidates for the award in the category of foreign graduates,

5) a brief justification for granting the Award, together with a list of achievements from the last 2 years, that are referred to in § 5 par. 1,

are submitted by authorised persons through the system available on the website: alumni-leaders.sgh.waw.pl.

§ 5

1. Nominations are assessed by the Award Jury according to the following achievements:

  1. in the field of SCIENCE:
    1. the number of citations - based on available bibliometric sources characterising achievements, such as ISI Web of Knowledge, SCOPUS etc., the Hirsch index and other sources taking into account the specificity of individual fields of science;
    2. managing domestic and foreign research projects;
    3. participation in other projects or initiatives related to science or combining science and business practice as a leader;
    4. the amount of funds awarded in domestic and foreign competitions for research projects;
  2. in the field of BUSINESS:
    1. results achieved by the nominee as part of their leadership functions or roles;
    2. national and international prizes and awards for the nominee and projects implemented by the nominee;
    3. involvement of the nominee or enterprise constituting the nominee's workplace in achieving the objectives of sustainable development or CSR.

2. The Award Jury grants from 0 to 10 points for each criterion in a given field. What is more, each member of the Award Jury has the right to award up to 5 additional points for positive subjective overall assessment of the candidate.

3. The Award Jury makes decisions based on the total number of points awarded to the Candidates by individual members of the Award Jury.

§ 6

1. The award ceremony will take place during SGH Feast on 22 April 2020.

2. The framework schedule of activities in the framework of the Award includes:

  1. Appointment of the Award Jury - until the end of January 2020;
  2. Submission of nominations by the authorised entities - from 3 to 28 February 2020;
  3. Assessment of the submitted nominations by the Award Jury - from March 6 to 27, 2020;
  4. Selection of winners – until 7 April 2020.
  5. The award ceremony – 22 April 2020.
